Trainings will begin at 7:00pm and should complete by 8:30 for Stroke & Turn only, and by 9:00 for Starter-Referee training.
Please sign up at the link below so that we can keep track of the attendees and their team affiliation.
Year-round officials (USAS & YMCA) should still sign up via the google form link below. In lieu of selecting a training, choose USAS or YMCA official. The league officials presentation will be sent to you to review.
Officials
The League is always in need of officials to run the meets. Trainings will begin around the end of May. Dates and times will be posted here.
Swimming is a highly technical sport consisting of four recognized and approved strokes. Just like referees in other sports, Stroke and Turn (S&T) Judges (officials) are responsible for ensuring safety and fair play during swimming events. Swimming is not a contact sport, so there is no need to address things like interference, offsides, or assign penalties like checking or rough play, but rather adherence to the stroke standards.
The Frederick Summer Swim League follows all USA Swimming standards for stroke and event rules, and conducts detailed training on these standards for all new and returning officials. S&T Officials are a required part of every League sanctioned meet, and their participation, precision, and impartiality are critical to a successful competition.
As an Official you will be provided training (2-hour video call) and on-deck mentorship at the swim meets until you are comfortable executing the job independently. There is no requirement for prior swimming experience, in fact, this job will quickly educate you on the proper technique required to be a successful swimmer.
Stroke and Turn Officials have the best vantage point for watching the competition, and as an in-demand position, there is almost always a volunteer opportunity available at each swim meet. Please consider taking the training to become a Spring Ridge Shark Stroke and Turn Official.
